Wrestling Club Summer News
Firebaugh wrestler Marcelino Madriz (11-12) Novice category wrestled his way through the Klammoth Falls, Oregon Western U.S. Regional Wrestling Chapion-ships in late June all the way to the kids Nationals in Green Bay Wisconsin in late July.
Marcelino has been on a mission since he won the California State Freestyle Championship in San Jose in May. Marcelino completed his summer of wrestling competition as a two sport all American freestyle and Greco Roman as he placed 2nd in Greco and 5th in Freestyle as The Kids National Championships in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Marcelino wrestles for the Firebaugh Wrestling club and is coached by Mom Mayra and Dad Javier. He has three brothers who wrestle as well: Javier, Antonio, and Fabian.
Local Wrestler in Action in Kansas City

FIREBAUGH - Chris Martinez, a 15-year-old freshman from Firebaugh High School, went 4-0 in the 105 lb. class in freestyle wrestling last month.
He was competing in the Cadet National Dual Meet championships in Kansas City, Missouri, June 24-28. He also competed in the national Freestyle Championships in Fargo, N. Dak., on July 17.
He won his first state championship last spring in San Jose, Calif.
Chris says thanks to the Firebaugh-Mendota Rotary, the firebaugh Wrestling Club, his family and coaches for giving him the opportunity to. compete. Coach Bill Magnusson says these tournaments are the "biggest and toughest in the US .... Go Eagles!" |
