Tom Steffen, a fourth generation Fresno County farmer, has been appointed to the Fresno Irrigation District Board of Directors.
Steffen, who lives in the Kerman area, will serve for the next two years. He fills a vacancy created in November when Robert Metzler, winner of last fall’s Division 4 balloting, declined the seat after learning his employment with the District would create a legal conflict.
He will take office Jan. 24, seceding Director Jacob Andresen who is leaving the Board after 24 years.
"The Board made the selection Tuesday after interviewing four excellent candidates," said Fill General Manager Gary Serrato.
Steffen is a member of the California Almond Board Production Research Committee and the Monsanto Agricultural Group consumer panel. He is a member of the Blue Diamond Growers Liaison Committee.
He will need to seek election in November 2008 for the term’s remaining two years.
